When I was a little girl
I wanted to be free
And break away from all the chains
That caused my misery.

I wanted to run away
And build a house among the trees,
Hear the birds sing in the morning,
Feel the early morning breeze.

But freedom’s an illusion
If it’s something you never see:
It makes you live in daydreams
And reject reality.

I always thought of freedom
As a thing I had to seek,
Because inside I felt so worthless,
Pitiful and weak.

Then finally the day came
When I won the power of choice
To go anywhere I wanted,
To be happy and rejoice.

With my mind so set on freedom
I ignored my voice within,
I chose the path of darkness
And I lived a life of sin.

Because freedom is a danger
If you don’t know what it is:
You live only for the action
But don’t see the consequences.

And freedom can be a killer
If it gets out of control:
My freedom nearly killed me,
But I crawled out of the hole.

I realised that freedom
Is not running to be free.
In my painful quest for liberty,
It was freedom that found me.

Now I know that freedom
Is only in the mind
It’s something deep within our souls
That only we can find.

When a man bleeds inwardly, it is a dangerous thing for himself; but when he laughs inwardly, it bodes no good to other people.

وال صقل يجمل الألماس ويبقى ماس
